On June 1, 2016, LAWPOA hosted its Captain Oral Interview Seminar. Many of the eligible candidates who attended this seminar, expressed their heartfelt gratitude to LAWPOA and the seminar's presenter, Commander Jeffrey Bert, for taking time to provide such vital information in their pursuit to be successful in this promotional process!
On June 11, 2016, LAWPOA's 3rd Vice-President, Sgt. John Vasquez, was given a tour of the remodeled Boyle Heights Variety Boys & Girls Club in Los Angeles by their Chairman of the Board, Mr. Javier Valenzuela. Mr. Valenzuela is also the President of Golden Eagle Wealth Management, which is a proud Bronze sponsor of LAWPOA's annual Professional Training and Development Symposium! On October 8, 2015, the Los Angeles Police Department’s own sworn personnel paid special recognition and their appreciation of the Department’s hard working and dedicated civilians. The Police Administration Building’s front plaza was humming with music and plenty of free food was provided to many of our Department’s civilian personnel. LAWPOA’s Board of Directors decided to go beyond their usual monetary contribution and added one awesome grand prize. Club Level tickets with all the extra trimmings, to an exciting evening of professional hockey, the Anaheim Ducks vs. the New York Islanders. LAWPOA in turn displayed their own deep hearted appreciation for all those civilians who serve this community with unwavering dedication. This was their day and LAWPOA was proud to play a part in celebrating Civilian Appreciation Day!!
On October 1, 2015, LAWPOA’s Board of Directors attended the Los Angeles Police Department’s 2015 Above & Beyond Medal of Valor and Purple Heart Awards Ceremony.
Hosted by the Los Angeles Police Foundation, this day of honorable recognition, paid tribute to 25 well deserved police officers who displayed exceptional acts of bravery, courage and dedication in the line of duty.

On June 25, 2015, LAWPOA once again took the lead in offering a very timely and much needed training seminar. For the benefit of our many City civilian employees, Senior Management Analyst II Elena Nihoa-Asucan presented "Civilian Interview Techniques." Thanks to LAWPOA Treasurer Sonia Solis for coordinating this seminar, which was a resounding success.
LAWPOA Board members along with Los Angeles County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, attended the Women Against Gun Violence (WAGV) 21st Annual Leadership Awards, which was held on May 3, 2015 at the Taglyan Cultural Complex. This year’s honorees were California State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson, Former California State Assemblymember Nancy Skinner, Smart Tech Challenges Foundation and Ernestine S. Elster, PhD. We applaud the courageous efforts of the WAGV for their dedication in keeping families, children and the communities we serve to be safe from gun violence. During the conclusion of the awards luncheon, a brief video presentation was shown called “Guns With History” by States United to Prevent Gun Violence.
