deputy
chief sandy jo mac arthur - Chief of incident management
and training
-
MacArthur was appointed to the Department in February
1980. She has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and
a master’s degree in behavioral science, negotiations and
conflict management. She spent ten years in patrol
assignments before promoting to sergeant in 1990. During
her patrol tours she worked a variety of LAPD divisions,
including Van Nuys, 77th, Foothill and Southwest. Her
assignments included patrol, vice and narcotics. |

Captain
tina nieto - hollenbeck patrol division
-
was born and raised in Southern California. She
becomes the first Latina Captain in the Department's
history.
Her background includes being a Officer in Charge at Audit
Division, a District Lieutenant in Hollywood Division; a
Watch Commander in Pacific Division; patrol experience in
Pacific and Hollywood Division and other support and
operational assignments. Nieto also served eight
years with the United States Army Reserve as a
commissioned officer, leaving at the rank of Captain. |

Commander
Joan McNamara -
COUNTERTERRORISM & CRIMINAL INTELLIGENCE BUREAU
-
was born and raised in Duluth, Minnesota. She
graduated from the University of Minnesota in
1981 where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree. She
entered the academy in 1982 and went on to
become the first female Senior Lead Officer in
Newton Area in 1986. Commander McNamara promoted
to Detective in 1991 and worked many complex
investigations alongside several outside
agencies. She also promoted to Lieutenant in
1999, and Captain in 2004. Her most recent
command was Harbor Area. (Member's

Captain III
Joan Wakefield - Central Area
- joined the Los Angeles Police
Department on December 12, 1983. She has worked
various patrol, administrative and detective
assignments. She was promoted to Detective in
1995 and shortly thereafter to Sergeant in 1996.
In 1999, Captain Wakefield was promoted to
Lieutenant and held the position of Watch
Commander at Van Nuys Patrol Division. As a
Lieutenant she was the Officer in Charge of
Recruitment and Backgrounds for the Department.
Most recently she held the position of Officer
in Charge of Employee Relations Group. On May
29, 2005 Captain Wakefield was assigned at the
Patrol Commanding Officer for Central Patrol
Division. |
