Bio

Detective Erika Kirk joined the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) in 2005.  Erika worked as a patrol officer in Central and Van Nuys Areas and soon developed an interest in Vice operations.  This interest led her to assignments as a Prostitution Enforcement Detail officer, a Vice officer, and a member of the LAPDs elite Citywide Human Trafficking Unit.  Erika honed her investigative skills during her assignment in the Valley Bureau’s Violent Crime Task Force where she worked alongside gang detectives and the Office of the District Attorney to investigate and file gang-related criminal cases.

Each of these assignments provided Erika with the expertise and knowledge to assume the coveted role of Senior Lead Officer (SLO) in Van Nuys area in 2014, which she held for the next five years.  Her area of responsibility included the Sepulveda Corridor where she had previously worked as a Vice officer.  Her prior experience proved invaluable as she tackled the significant criminal activity related to prostitution and associated human trafficking issues.  As a SLO, Erika learned the importance of community engagement and relationship building, skills she has built upon throughout her LAPD service.  Erika recognizes that social media is an excellent method of outreach in a new millennium and has created a highly popular Instagram account that gives the public a glimpse into the day-to-day experiences of the women and men in law enforcement.

In 2019, Erika was promoted to Detective at Hollywood Area, where she currently investigates Major Assault Crimes to include domestic violence, sexual assault, and other crimes of violence. When Erika upgraded to the rank of Detective II, she transferred to the Officers’ Representation Section.

Erika is proud to serve as the Sergeant at Arms of Los Angeles Women Police Officers and Associates, and is a board member of Cover Now, a non-profit emergency fund, which assists officers and their families during crises related to a line of duty catastrophic injury or suicide.

Erika is married to an LAPD detective and they are raising their three young sons in Los Angeles county.
