Sergeant Trina Bluff has served the Los Angeles Police Department for more than 30 years, holding a wide range of field assignments across three geographical bureaus. Promoted toSergeant in 2009, she has worked in patrol and in two divisional vice units. In 2012, she joined the Internal Affairs Division, where her work in the Central Administrative Investigation Section and the Workplace Investigation Section deepened her expertise in complaint investigations and civil litigation processes.
In 2015, Sergeant Bluff became the first female sergeant in the LAPD Bomb Squad. She currently serves as the Officer-In-Charge of the unit, overseeing 24 bomb technicians and supervisors. She is a graduate of the Sherman Block Leadership Institute, the LAPD Leadership Program, and the FBI’s Hazardous Devices School.
Sergeant Bluff holds a bachelor’s degree in organizational leadership from Union Institute &University, as well as a master’s and doctoral degree in forensic sciences from Oklahoma State University. She is a Los Angeles Police Protective League delegate and a long-standing member of the Department’s peer support group. She also teaches part-time at the Criminal Justice Training Center at Golden West College, specializing in critical incidents and terrorism awareness.
Outside of her professional commitments, Sergeant Bluff enjoys traveling and is an avid scuba diver. She is the proud mother of a Santa Monica Police Detective and a United States Air Force service member.
