Bio

Captain Amira Eppolito grew up in Los Angeles County. She worked as a waitress while she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from California Polytechnic University, Pomona in 1995. Amira began her career with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) on November 26, 1996. Her work experience includes over almost two decades as an active supervisor and thirteen years as a detective. In December of 2023, Amira Eppolito was promoted to Captain and is currently assigned as the commanding officer of Newton Patrol Division.

As a lieutenant, Amira Eppolito has worked in four divisions to include Gang and Narcotics, Training, Recruitment and Employment, and Topanga Patrol Divisions. In these assignments, she served as the Officer in Charge of the elite Gun Unit, Fugitive Warrant Section, Academy Coordinator of the six-month police academy training and testing for new hires, recruitment and marketing for the LAPD, and as a watch commander in the valley. As a detective supervisor, she was the Officer in Charge of the Detective Training Unit. In this assignment, her responsibilities included oversight of the Detective Symposium and various specialized investigative courses. In 2013, she received the distinguished ICI Founders Award by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) for her passion and commitment to enhancement of the investigative excellence. Captain Eppolito has designed the curriculum for numerous law enforcement courses including the Science Based Interviews, Building the Community Leader, ICI Human Trafficking, and Advancing Women in Leadership courses. She is also on the instructor cadre in the LAPD Leadership Program, Active Bystander for Law Enforcement (ABLE) and other courses teaching leadership skills and emotional intelligence in law enforcement. As a detective and police officer, she has worked Van Nuys division, Hollywood and 77th Patrol Divisions.

Captain Eppolito is a graduate of the LAPD Leadership, Sherman Block Institute Leadership, and POST Management Courses. She has served on the Steering Committee for LAPD’s Peer Support Program and Resiliency Task Force, for which she was awarded the Police Meritorious Service Medal for her efforts toward addressing officer suicides and organizing the first law enforcement annual awareness walk in 2018. Amira serves as a Board Member on the Los Angeles Women Police Officers and Associates and the Los Angeles Police Federal Credit Union. Amira has mentored many employees over the years for their career development and advancement through coaching and conducting mock oral interviews. In May of 2023, she earned her Masters Degree in the Executive Master of Leadership (EML) Program at the University of Southern California.

Captain Amira Eppolito is married to Eric Eppolito, who is also an LAPD Captain assigned to Devonshire Patrol Division. She treasures her time with her husband, two daughters, and her English Bulldog.
