Captain Amira Eppolito grew up in Los Angeles County and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from California Polytechnic University, Pomona in 1995. Amira began her career with the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) on November 26, 1996. Her work experience includes almost two decades as an active supervisor and thirteen years as a detective. In December of 2023, Amira Eppolito was promoted to Captain and is currently assigned as the commanding officer of Newton Patrol Division.

Captain Eppolito is a graduate of the LAPD Leadership, Sherman Block Institute Leadership, and POST Management Courses. She has served on the Steering Committee for LAPD’s Peer Support Program and Resiliency Task Force, for which she was awarded the Police Meritorious Service Medal for her efforts toward addressing officer suicides and organizing the first law enforcement annual awareness walk in 2018. In May of 2023, she earned her Master’s Degree in the Executive Master of Leadership (EML) Program at the University of Southern California.

Captain Eppolito is passionate about the recruitment, retention, and advancement of women in law enforcement. She has mentored many employees over the years for their career development and advancement through coaching and conducting mock oral interviews. Using her background in training, she designed the 3-day course titled Advancing Women in Law Enforcement Leadership and was instrumental in the Los Angeles Women Police Officers and Associates (LAWPOA), becoming a POST Presenter for courses.

Captain Amira Eppolito is married to Eric Eppolito, who is also an LAPD Captain assigned to Devonshire Patrol Division. She treasures her time with her husband, two daughters, and her English Bulldog.
